ALPHA 000

Hey, first of all I want to thank you for stopping by and reading a bit about the development of Hardpoint. It’s my most ambitious project yet, and I’m stoked you’re along for the ride, however you are.

Today I packaged the first “release” build of Hardpoint - ALPHA 000-R1. It’s not a public release or anything, though a few people have play-tested it.

At this point most of the big game systems have been implemented to some degree, with a few being functionally feature complete despite lacking some integration with whatever other system isn’t so ready yet. Everything also still needs final art, but most of that will come way later.

The goal behind the 000 build was to have everything in place as a starting point for extending anything else. This gives me the freedom to test new mechanics with at least some version of any other system. In the end, 000-R1 was the first version of the game you could comfortably jump into and play - to some extent.

For the future it looks like the 001 build will have the now in-development building generator as its showpiece. The building generator is the system that randomly generates the layout of each building’s interior, the layout of its rooms, and its spawnables - given that building’s real-life exterior shape. I expect the first release candidate for this build to be done by the second week of August abouts.

The 002 build will see the implementation and integration of every super major game system. Most of the mechanics left to implement are the more subtle, backend systems - including inventories, gamemodes, AI, skills, etc. By 002, Hardpoint should be nearly feature complete regarding what’s going to actually be in the first Alpha Access release.
